Getting There
Our Recommendations for travel
Planes
There are three airports you can fly into for your trip to Nikis, each with its own advantages:
Rome (FCO)- This will likely be your easiest option, with the most nonstop flights from the U.S. The drive to Nikis takes approximately 2.5 hours.
Perugia (PEG) - A smaller regional airport with no direct flights from California. However, if you don't mind a layover or are already traveling within Europe, this gets you closest to Nikis.
Florence (FLR) - No direct flights from California. This airport is about 2.5 hours from Nikis by car, or you can take a scenic train ride through Tuscany.
Trains
Important: There is no train service directly to Nikis Resort. If traveling by train, plan to arrive in Perugia, then take a taxi or shuttle for the final leg of your journey (approximately 30-40 minutes).
From Rome (FCO) - Take the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini (Rome's main station). From there, take a Trenitalia train to Perugia.
From Florence (FLR) - Take the tram from the airport to Firenze Santa Maria Novella (Florence's main station), then catch a train to Perugia.

Automobiles
Important: U.S. travelers will need an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to your regular driver's license. You can obtain one from AAA before your trip—it's quick and inexpensive.
Renting a car is our top recommendation for getting to Nikis. It offers the most freedom to explore at your own pace and doesn't have to be intimidating. Italians drive on the right side of the road (same as the U.S.), and Melanie and I have had excellent, cost-effective experiences with car rentals throughout Italy. We've had particularly good experiences with Europcar.
And yes—automatic transmission vehicles are available!
